2009-10 CRWP Professional Development Series

Greenville Secondary ELA Teachers

This professional development series will engage teacher participants in inquiry-based approaches to exploring the teaching of writing in secondary English language arts classrooms.

Goals for the year:

  • To create lesson plans for the use of a writing workshop approach including mini-lessons, conferring, genre study, and formative and summative assessment based on professional resources such as Writing Reminders by Jim Burke, Write Beside Them by Penny Kittle, and The Digital Writing Workshop by Troy Hicks
  • To examine digital writing technologies such as wikis, blogs, and podcasting that appeals to adolescents and can increase literacy achievement
  • To evaluate the samples of student writing from our classrooms and determine additional instruction based on what is evident in their work
